¡Si se puede!
Half a million people in the streets of Los Angeles today, in defiance of xenophobia and the anti-immigrant pandering of several leading Republican politicians (whose motto seems to be, 'Screw your tired/poor/huddled masses; send us the software engineers and let the rest rot beyond a wall.')
(50,000 in Denver, 10,00o in Phoenix; the police and pundits sound surprised at the turnout numbers. Do they never wonder who serves their coffee and cleans their offices and builds their cities?)
I cherish the fact that when I ride the subway, the people in the car are reading newspapers in more languages than I'll ever be able to learn in this life. New York is reconciling me with my country, because it is the antithesis of everything the wall-builders want America to be.
