şeker bayramı kutlu olsun!

Or, for those of you who don't speak Turkish, Eid Mubarak. In Turkey, Eid al-Fitr is called şeker bayramı, which literally (and accurately!) translates to "sugar/sweets holiday." Tonight we'll eat some of the antep fıstıklı (pistachio) lokum I brought back from Ali Muhaddin Haci Bekir (a famous sweet shop in İstanbul that dates back to 1777). Warmest wishes to all who are celebrating. If you're in the States, buy some Eid stamps and rejoice in the failure of the bigots who tried to stop them from being re-issued.
