turkey and the limits of europe

A new essay of mine on Turkey and Europe is up as part of the web-based opinion journal opina.nl's fifth issue "On the Move." It's called "Redrawing Borders: Turkey and the Limits of Europe," and touches on a number of issues I've written about here and elsewhere, including Kemalism's European vocation, the impact of EU policy on Turkish political reform, and the hybrid identities emerging from the art and politics of second-generation Turkish-Europeans. It also mentions, in passing, some works in the current İstanbul Biennial that address these issues; I've spent a lot of time at various exhibitions and museums this week and will be writing about what I've seen--and posting photos--in the coming days.
