a new arabic fiction anthology
Diana Abu-Jaber reviews Modern Arabic Fiction: An Anthology in the Washington Post. I highly recommend her novel Crescent, a the story of an Iraqi-American chef in Los Angeles's various Middle Eastern immigrant communities (Arab, Persian, and Turkish characters--and their mouthwatering culinary contributions--all make an appearance). Beware, though, of reading someplace where you don't have ready access to a good Arab restaurant--or the ability to cook the food yourself.
