I've been better lately about updating twitter (er, particularly during VP debates) than the blog--blame it on grad school. But it reminds me that I should point to that incarnation (you'll need to request approval to follow, but as long as I have some idea of who you are, it's fine). I'm kitabet in several places now--that's originally because a friend complained that 'verbalprivilege' was too long to type easily, but the alias has grown on me. It sounds a little like my grandmother's nickname for me as a child, but it's also a Turkish/Ottoman word that means 'rhetoric, the art of writing well, scribesmanship.'

In the meantime, still trying to figure out what to do with this space, which I seem to have outgrown. I'm tempted to just start a whole new blog with a different name, and chuck the contents of this one into an archive somewhere. We'll see. In the meantime, I have pictures and stories from California to share, but there's all this Foucault to read, and potential voters to register, and gelecek Pazartesinde bir Türkçe sınavı olacak. Soon.

Sarah Palin is so full of fail. It's very scary that people actually take her seriously. Also, I kind of heart Joe Biden.

Please do share stories from the conference! I had meant to comment on the previous post - I had read about it a while back in the midst of grad school research so it was very amusing, but not surprising, when you posted about attending.
Luck for the exam.

sağ ol, arkadaşlarım! It went fine, although I did make a few appallingly boneheaded mistakes (like mixing up avutmak & acımak! Sigh...)

Sz, I will try to post something on the conference this weekend--much to say, just haven't had time.

Hilal--thanks for the intriguing invitation! I'll email you about this--I'd love to be involved in some way once things have calmed down a bit (read: after Nov. 4th) and thanks also for the exciting news of the new Sultana album!
