unforeseen hiatus

As you probably noticed, this blog on something of an unintentional hiatus. Work, studies, packing and moving, a wonderful surfeit of friends visiting New York this month, and no spare time. Except I'm not in New York at the moment, I'm in Kiev--

--yes, the capitol of the Ukraine. I flew out here yesterday, having only learned that I'd be coming about four days prior (my boss phones from Budapest late last week: I pick up, say hello, she says, Hi! Can you go to Kiev next week?)

It's pretty. I don't speak any Ukrainian, except "thank you." I'm quite jet-lagged, and about to go spend all day in meetings all about media advocacy, press freedom, and journalism for human rights. I'll be back in New York on the weekend--just in time for the last day of Pride--and by then, may have found time to write something.

The more hardcore Ukrainian nationalists would prefer the spelling "Kyiv."

Pity you won't be there for very long. The city's gorgeous right now.

t, the city was indeed gorgeous. and while in general i seek to annoy hardline nationalists (see below posts) i have no objection to variable spellings.

ya lyra, thank you hon. and mama.

sz, i'll be back soon. also, your istanbul photographs are just killing me. aching to be back in beyoğlu. soon, inşallah.
